Where we are

Villa di Campolungo is an eco-friendly farmhouse, set in the Tuscan countryside. The villa is in the municipality of Fiesole, between Querciola and the hills of Olmo. Fiesole is a 5 minute drive away. Florence is also closeby. 

We are surrounded by stunning Tuscan countryside. You can enjoy a bike-ride or a walk here, or simply use it as a base to explore one of Italy’s most fascinating regions. Remember we are always happy to give you advise about the best places to go and see whether it's nearby or further afield. A new high-speed train link means you can easily explore Italy's other big cities Roma and Milan during your stay at Villa di Campolungo. Arriving from motorway A1 

Take the exit for “Barberino”. Around 200m after the toll station you will reach a roundabout. Take the third exit towards Borgo San Lorenzo. Continue along this road for 11.5km, when you will reach a second roundabout. Follow signs for Firenze SS65/via Bolonese. Drive along the SS65 for another 11.5 km. You will then reach Pratolino (the road is quite steep uphill), make a sharp left turn (almost at the top of the hill) toward Olmo. Follow this road for 2.5 km, when you will need to turn right towards Olmo. Continue in the direction of Olmo for approximately 1.5 km, at which point you will see a sign on your right indicating "Via di Campolungo". Make the right turn and go straight down Via di Campolungo for approximately 1 km at which point the asphalt ends. Go straight for another 200 m on the countryside road and you will see Villa di Campolungo at your right (yellow building). The last 200m is along a track with no asphalt.


Arriving from Firenze and Fiesole 

Driving along the main SS302 Faentina passes through the village of Caldine. When you arrive in Caldine, continue north on the same road. Go straight through Caldine. Shortly after Caldine you will see the sign Querciola and then the restaurant Mario on your right hand side. After restaurant Mario continue straight for another 1.5km. Following a steep "S" curve you will see a small red house on the left and then a private road on the left. Take this small private road and follow it for some 300m. At the crossing turn left and follow the road for another 300m where you will find Villa di Campolungo on your right (yellow building). The last 200m is along a track with no asphalt.

The centre of Fiesole is just a few minutes away and is considered an absolute must. It's just 5 minutes away by car. This town predates Florence, with its Etruscan history. The town is small but famed for its beauty, and its stunning views of Florence. There is lots to see here; there’s an Etruscan Archaeological Museum, with a beautifully preserved amphitheatre.  The Bandini Museum has works by some of the greatest artists of the 12th-14th centuries. Just up the hill is the Monastery of San Francesco, where you can really enjoy the view across the Tuscan hills surrounding Florence. Fiesole has some of the finest restaurants in the area too, with a fantastic range of food.

The city can be reached in ten minutes by car or easily by bus. The service is good and the bus stop is 1km away. The closest train station is Caldine which is 3 km away. In Florence there is everything  you might want to see and do. Some of the world’s most famous museums The Uffizi, The Bargello, The Accademia, as well as collections at Pitti Palace. The stunning churches of Santa Maria Novella, The Duomo, and San Lorenzo are well worth visiting. Or perhaps you fancy wondering around the gardens of Boboli, trying out some of the ice cream, or simply doing some shopping. Florence has something for everyone.

Tuscan cities

Siena is just an hour away by car, and here you can explore the beautiful Tuscan countryside you pass by on your way here. Siena is smaller than Florence, and the two cities have through the centuries, fought many battles for power and dominance. You can make up your mind which city you prefer. If you time your trip carefully, you might even get the famous horse race the Palio which takes place here every year. 

Lucca is one hour away. This small Tuscan town has all the charm and beauty you expect to see. This historic town is famed for its medieval walls, and stunning Amphitheatre. You can rent bikes to get a real feel for this town. 

Pisa is 90 minutes away. Most flight arrive in Pisa, but surprisingly few people make it into the town centre. Of course a trip here will give you the chance to see the world-famous Leaning Tower.

Heading north, just 40 minutes away is a fascinating, and little-explored part of Tuscany the Mugello. It has lots to see and do, and being less crowded makes it very appealing. Here there is an internationally renowned racetrack, lots of Medici Villas, and the ancient town of Scarperia, Borgo San Lorenzo and Vicchio. In this area Giotto was born, and there are many other great artistic and architectural claims, which can only be understood and appreciated by coming here. For example you can visit the Church of San Agatha, the Convent of Bosco ai Frati, Medici Villa of Cafaggiolo and the Castle of Trebbio.

The Italian big brand Ferrari has its home just a two hour drive away. Since the 1940’s Ferrari has been making and racing its cars here. A museum houses all of the sports and racing trophies. It looks at the history of the cars, and how Enzo Ferrari contributed to improving the speed and design of cars in the past, and how the brand has progressed into being a world-leader for motors. 

Nearby in Modena there is a museum dedicated entirely to the genius of Enzo Ferrari. While Faenza is easily reachable and famous for its ceramics.

Villa di Campolungo’s location in the Tuscan hills makes it a perfect starting point for anyone wishing to explore the area on foot or by bike. Here you are in the Tuscan heartland with stunning views, nature and trails just waiting for you. It’s possible to go hiking or mountain biking along some of the routes belonging to the network of the Italian Alpine Club.
